This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
A commond thread, or pattern should I say, that I found in this lesson was regardless of what it is you're teaching (vocabulary, grammatical structures, or language functions), the bottom line is, whatever the \"stage\" is (whether it be engage, study, or activate), the techniques are all around the same. In the engage stage, you are discussing the new concept or showing some sort of object or picture(s). In the study stage, you want the students to get a better grasp of the material, so you work on unscrambling, texts, basically drilling the material. And finally you have the active stage where you allow the students to get up and try and use what they've learned (role playing, games, debates, etc). I find that these teaching styles not only help with just this subject, but beyond it as well.
