In unit 8 we talk about the two productive skills, speaking and writing. These skills are used to communicate. In many ways, writing is the more difficult skill and therefore is often neglected. Some of these difficulties include spelling, punctuation, handwriting, and layout.
There are also some challenges that come with speaking. Unlike writing activities, in speaking we generally do not have much time to prepare what we want to say. We need to be ready to answer promptly.
Within the productive skills we have two main types of activities: accuracy activities and fluency activities. Accuracy activities are more focused on producing correct language and are therefore controlled and guided by the teacher. Fluency activities are more focused on the flow and effectiveness of the language.
