This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit provides a very clear break down of the types of things that should be included in an English teacher's lesson plan, and how those align with the ESA phases in unit 3. I have learned that flexibility and adaptation is key. Some things should be planned ahead of the lesson, such as the learner's objectives, language point, procedure, and timing. Having said that, too much rigidity and planning can be detrimental, as students might respond differently than expected, and the lesson should allow for that. Something I hadn't considered before this unit was that post-lesson reflections can be just as valuable as pre-lesson planning. These reflections allow for the teacher to make adjustments on fresh experience, and thus cater to the needs of the students as well as the teacher's own needs.
