This unit discussed lesson planning in the context of EFL classes. I found it to be interesting on several levels. First, the idea that lesson plans need not be overly ridged seemed to be a very sensible approach to me. I was also very happy to learn about the usefulness of lesson plans as a means of record keeping and maintaining continuity in the event I should be absent from class for any reason. Given the emphasis on the idea of lesson plans being flexible, I found it rather odd that we were asked to plan using ESA straight arrow format. This is because straight arrow lesson format seems to me to be less flexible than the boomerang format would have been. That aside, this chapter was very useful to me and I will likely incorporate some of the ideas it discussed in my future lesson planning.
