This was a really hard unit for me because I did not have a lot of awareness of this material before hand. It amazes me that as a native English speaker I have never learned the specific instances or reasons why using one type of tense is correct over another. When I first started this unit, it made me nervous to think of trying to teach this. But now that I have done it I think that what will benefit students most is simply practice and some awareness of the different types of present tenses. Since I never learned these tenses as a native speaker, it is okay if my students also do not memorize every detail to run through in their head every time they want to make a sentence. Practice will really be the key in helping them understand the usages and getting a feel for what is correct or incorrect.
