This unit covered the different styles and roles that good teachers must perform in class. This includes acting as a manager, monitor, assessor, moderator/facilitator, and others. I learned the characteristics of good students and good teachers. Teachers need to demonstrate knowledge of the subject, follow their own rules, and be respectful of the students’ cultures. I also learned about the differences between adult and younger learners in terms of learning experience, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behavior problems, and life experience. Of particular interest was that adults are more nervous about new learning experiences due to the possibility of losing face. The factors differentiating different levels of language learners showed the path language learners will develop along.
