This unit gave an overview of some common teaching methodologies and practical suggestions for how to structure a lesson. Though no teaching method is proven to be the best, the teaching structure of engage-study-activate includes the most important elements: lots of student talk time, task and communication based language practice, discovery, and focused study and repetition. The three main components of a good lesson can be presented in a variety of ways and even repeated so long as you always begin with engagement and end with an activate task. I gained many ideas for activities for each stage. Finally, this unit outlined how and when to give correction, emphasizing that praise is just as important and that correction should be focused on the study time and be student-driven to be most effective.
