This unit covers the basics of teaching a new language, which is comprised of grammar, vocabulary, and the functions of the language. Grammar is considered the trunk or \"main stem\" of the language tree, and the vocabulary and functions the leaves and branches. I think it was useful to re-iterate the ESA (engage-study-activate) method for TEFL, because it is a clear, straightforward guide to planning a lesson. However, I thought that distinguishing between the \"boomerang\" and \"patchwork\" varieties of ESA would be helpful, especially if more examples are given. In a real teaching situation, sometimes the teacher just gets \"a feel\" for when to change tactics for an optimal learning experience, but it would be great to have this gut feeling explained as a process, especially for new teachers.
