The material in this unit describes the various roles of teacher and student and what it means to be a good educator or learner. Personally, the most important take away from this unit was the minute examination of the different roles a teacher plays. I have been teaching for about 4 months now in Japan, and I have found myself in each of these roles at one point or another, but I have never given conscious thought to the process. Being able to conceptualize each role as I make use of it will help me to avoid some of the pitfalls associated with them-- for example when acting as \"resource\" the teacher should be careful not to spoon feed the students, or when acting as \"tutor\" the teacher should be careful not to become over involved. As a result, this will help me to use these roles more effectively.
