This unit discussed the approaches to introducing new vocabulary and grammar to students. It reviewed the preferred lesson plan approach, ESA, and gave examples of lessons for teaching new vocabulary and for teaching new grammar using the ESA structure. Both grammar and vocabulary instruction were broken down into parts including: what the student needs to know; selecting what to teach; and teaching it.There are always some troubles when working with students. This unit summarizes some of the problems and provides solutions on how to solve them. As a teacher, I have come across so many situations mentioned here. For example, many of the students in my classrooms are monolingual and I often use their language, if they have trouble understanding. I will definitely try to avoid this in my future teaching.
