In this unit I learned that the following is normally included in a first lesson: establishing rapport with games like pass the ball, finding out the students' needs and desires for English language learning through surveys and questionnaires and finding out the English language level of each student through the use of diagnostic exams. I also learned how to deal with a large class and how to effectively use listening texts.This unit provided me with an example of an effective lesson and an ineffective lesson. It focused of the way a teach engages with the students, their mannerisms and gestures, as well as the way that they communicate with the students in order to facilitate understanding. It was very useful because it effectively demonstrates the influence or impact a teacher's attitude and teaching style can have on the success of a lesson.
