This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 provides clear and thorough strategies for how classroom management, including how a teacher should physically behave in a lesson, and how students should be arranged in the classroom itself. Given my previous classroom experience, most of this information was in sync with what I've encountered, learned, or picked up on my own, but there were a number of meaningful points that I hadn't considered before. Asking the question before calling on the student by name is important. The idea of using gestures to reduce teacher talking time was a strategy that I may have incorporated in the past but never considered explicitly. The concept that nationality should play into how a classroom is arranged was particularly interesting to me as well. This is a topic I will study further outside of this course.
