This unit was essentially an overview of the different parts of speech, filled with examples and explanations for each part of speech. This section is useful for several reasons– it acts as an overview of the English language, it enables teachers to review this material and examine any weaknesses or misunderstandings they may have, and it outlines the rules of the English language to us. As native speakers, it is often the case that although we speak fluently and correctly, we might not necessarily understand what makes our sentences correct. Students of a new language need some structure and basis for understanding a new language, and as a teacher, knowing the parts of speech and their rules is a fundamental that we should not only be able to use in conversation, but explain thoroughly if need be.
