There are five factors which may affect or limit syllabus design. They are our employer, time constraint, our resources, cultural issues and the students we teach.
The five factors will affect our syllabus design because the school or company that we work for may have decided what is or isn’t to be taught in the syllabus. Our contact time will have been decided before we embark on our course and this will have a major impact on what we can put in our syllabus as time may be a constraint. The resources that we may have access to will also affect our effectiveness of teaching. Sensitivity to certain issues in our teaching which relates to cultural issues restraints us in what we teach in our syllabus, and taking account of our students and the purpose for which they are attending our course affects us.
