This unit describes the various types of testing an ESL teacher can do to place students at the right level, measure their proficiency, check their progress, and evaluate future needs. The course also describes the external tests the students may be asked to take depending on how they will use English in their future. Besides testing, the teacher could use tutorials and student evaluations to determine progress.The differences between the different past tense forms are quite subtle and is quite difficult to explain in conversation. For past simple, remembering the irregular verbs may be difficult, and therefore recognizing this tense form could be challenging. The other form may be a bit easier as the structure for each form is fixed (eg. past continuous is always the subject, was/were and verb-ing in affirmative form).
