Unit 11 introduced how to teach \"Receptive skills\" which would comprise of Reading and Listening. It was presented that in order to successfully understand the context of a text, the student must develop several skills: Predictive Skills, Scanning Skills, Skimming for general information, learn how to focus for Detailed information, and learn how to Deduce contextual meaning from words heard or read. Some of the keys to encouraging growth in \"Receptive Skills\" development, lean much on the teacher to present a variety of carefully selected, level appropriate materials based on student interests, taking time to pre-teach unfamiliar important vocabulary, create an interest in the material (i.e. through discussion or some engage phase activity), and checking comprehension through various activities/tasks.
