To use a course book in class or not is a controversial question. Some schools provide the teacher and students with the teaching material. Yet, the teacher should look through the content carefully and decide if it's absolutely suitable for students' level. Otherwise, the teacher is better to adapt a course book to students including extra material or leaving some lessons out. In my opinion, a course book may be quite helpful even for experienced teachers as it provides a particular syllabus, necessary audio or video recordings. In addition, the lessons are stated in a way to give continuity and progression. Though, drawbacks of a course book are obvious: it doesn't always cover the topics which may be interesting to students; and it doesn't consider students' nationalities and peculiarities of their language.
