The ways in which we learn are all different. However, the typical learning environment has been a top-down approach, where the teacher is the knowledge holder, and students knowledge-less. What this unit does is outlines how learning and teaching can have a bottom-down approach. Where students are bringing the knowledge they have to help create new knowledge, allowing students to empower themselves. Especially with speaking and writing, teachers can really integrate student's prior knowledge during the engage and activate stages.
For many individuals learning a second language, speaking may be an area that they are the least confident in. For many students they are unable to practice speaking outside of the classroom. I can foresee a challenge in ensuring my students are confident in their speaking abilities.
