This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
When learning a new language one must use four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. Listening and reading are receptive skills; speaking and writing are productive skills. Receptive skills have two purposes, they can be done to achieve something or they can be done for entertainment. There are five main ways receptive skills are used: to predict something, find specific information, get a general idea of something, learn detailed information, or to deduct something from the context. When choosing content to read the teacher may need to first teach difficult words and/or grammar, use something with and appropriate length, and pick something that the students will find interesting. Receptive skills are just as important as productive skills and both are necessary for the students to practice in class.
