This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on the teaching of productive skills, i.e., speaking and writing. For both of these skills, the unit discussed factors to consider in preparing lessons and managing the lessons themselves. It described the differences between accuracy and fluency activities, and discussed when each should be the focus of activities (typically, the former would be during Study-phases, and the latter during Activate-phases). Different speaking and writing activities were then outlined, with examples of how to encourage student interaction and language production, as well as guidelines for free/creative speaking and writing activities and sample lesson plans. The unit concluded with a description of the utilization of games in the classroom and examples of how popular games can be adapted to work in the classroom.
