Yes, the material (course books or other resources) have to be appropriate to the skill level and overall goals of what is to be taught. You wouldn?t want to use an overly scientific course book to students who may not have any knowledge of what was being taught. Using higher level materials, will only frustrate the learner because most likely they will not be able to absorb or even understand the material.
Course books and other resources should be appropriate to ages, overall lesson goals, and to the levels of the students. Yes, students like to be challenge in that it gives them a sense of achievement once materials is absorbed, but if the challenge is too much, they might shut down out of frustration and learn nothing.
