Unit 5 topic is Managing Classes. Content includes using eye contact, gesture, voice and using students' names to assist with classroom management. Grouping of students, classroom arrangement and the teacher's position in the classroom is covered, emphasising the positive and negative aspects of the various possibilities. There are sections on writing on the board, giving individual attention, balancing Teacher Talk Time and Student Talk Time, giving instructions, establishing rapport and maintaining discipline.
The unit presents a broad and condensed treatment of classroom management for teaching English language, and I hope to be able to utilise the various aspects of the content of this unit in future in a TEFL situation.
