The main goal for this unit is how to create effective lessons that will engage and challenge your students. Before going into the idea of ESA, we first look at different methodologies employed in an EFL classroom.
The current approach is to use something called ESA which means to engage students at the beginning of the lesson, provide teaching and studying moments in the study stage and then activate their learning at the end. Lessons can also use these same three building blocks to create other types of lessons - as long as you engage students in the beginning and activate their knowledge at the end.
Lastly, students only improve if they are correcting their errors, but it is very difficult as a teacher to know how and when to correct students. The biggest lesson from this is that is it is better for students to correct themselves or use their peers for correction as opposed to hearing it from a teacher.
