The final unit covered some of the most common problems that teachers encounter in the classroom such as taking over a class or starting a new class, dealing with reluctant students, working with multi-levelled students in a classroom and etc. It examined how to start a new course effectively, as well as how to deal with large classes, reluctant students and multi-level classes. What I found useful for me was that at the start of a course, an effective teacher will not use any coursebooks but will use activities to achieve goals such as establishing rapport within the classroom and getting to know his or her students better. It was also advised for the teacher to carry out a needs analysis to provide useful feedback for the teacher and it can help in planning future lessons. I think this approach is very practical as it will prove to be way more effective than just starting off the lesson using the coursebook, which can be boring for both the teacher and students.
