This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
There are some common problems that might occur when teaching. I learned from the unit how I can deal with different problem situations and what I can do to avoid them. As I am new to teaching English it is good to know what I can do during my first class. I also found it very useful to read about the different levels. I will start teaching a class where the students are between 5 and 8. That's a huge age difference and they are likely to be at a different level. The unit taught me that I can pair the stronger with the weaker students, use different materials or let them do different tasks. The unit talks about the various teaching groups and how lessons can be prepared for each group. These special groups can be classified into: beginners, individual students, children, business English learners or learning English for specific purposes and monolingual and multilingual class. After reading the unit, we learn that there are different types of beginners like, the absolute beginner, the adult beginner and the younger beginner. We also learn ideas on how to handle one to one lessons and teaching children. Teachers' role is of primary importance when it comes to teaching children.
