This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Grammar is the structure of a language and the simplest form of structure is the basic sentence. A sentence must consist of at least a subject and verb, but will usually have more words than this. Each word in a sentence can be classified according to its purpose and the meaning it gives. These classifications are the basic parts of grammar which is called the parts of speech. They are nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, articles, gerunds, and infinitive. Many words in English can be more than one part of speech. Depending on what its function is in the sentence or on how the word is used, the same word can be a noun in a sentence and a verb or adjective in the next.
I must familiarize myself with the different parts of speech because they are essential in the study of grammar. The role of a word in a sentence, knowing which part of speech it is, helps to understand the sentence and having an extended knowledge of this topic will make me an effective communicator.
