This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
As many teachers living abroad realize the process of learning new language vocabulary is quickened as we look for similarities, or other patterns compared to our mother tongue. Spanish would certainly be easier than Chinese since we can see similarities in how it's spelled. I think 'gap fill' in combination with multiple choice for less advanced students and 'correct the jumbled word order' exercizes would be more effective in quickly establishing the rules of grammar for beginner up to lower intermediates as opposed to requiring short essays right out of the gate. Just as paragraph 13 and 14 referred to, whether it's straight line ESA or patchwork methods, both techniques provide ample opportunity for engagement of the student and assessment for the teacher to ensure progressive development of these necessary grammar functions even by the student who doesn't find this their cup of tea!
