This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit discussed some of the problems that may arise while teaching English. I found this unit very helpful, in that I know that not all classes run smoothly and it was nice to have a list of possible difficulties. The unit talks about the benefits and disadvantages of certain groups. For example, a group of students who know each other already have rapport with each other; therefore, they will be more comfortable. However, this also means they will probably speak the same mother tongue and can be more tempted to speak in that language, instead of English. Also, the unit addressed students who may not want to verbally participate in class. It was nice to have suggestions for how to handle that sort of scenario. The unit also discussed the difficulties that students may have with listening texts, which I remember as being problematic when I studied a foreign language. Overall, I appreciated this last unit.
