The skills needed to manage a classroom are many. Some, such as monitoring the classroom and maintaining discipline take personal confidence, observation skills and reliability. On the other hand, more delicate skills involve building rapport to encourage more student talk time and to pay attention to which students are move outgoing so that may possibly be paired with less talkative ones. I appreciate the different pros and cons to many different classroom management styles, such as seat organization, giving instructions, writing on the board, etc. Obviously many psychological skills are needed for dealing with individual students within the encompassing classroom, such as letting them be quiet if they are too uncomfortable and to let students express their own personal opinions and to be careful about multi-culturalism.
