This unit covered one of the most important areas of language, that is, pronunciation or phonology. It taught me techniques to teach Intonation and stress as they play an important part in conveying a message and deriving context from speech. The unit also discussed how sound joining and linked speech can affect pronunciation of words or sentences. I learnt that as in English many words with same spelling can have different pronunciations it is useful to teach students phonemic symbols that may help them with correct pronunciation by consulting a dictionary. Also teaching students articulation and the manner of articulation will further help them understand pronunciation. Lastly the effectiveness of techniques for teaching pronunciation were discussed.
