This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 13 is a fairly detailed presentation of the teaching of English pronunciation and phonology, covering such concepts as intonation, stress, and rhythm, and how to best teach them. Next, the unit covers the physic/anatomy of English speech and the International phonemic alphabet used to render accurate and consistent phonemic representations. As a teacher without much formal training I learned how complex English phonetically and how much nuance and subtlety of meaning can be conveyed by variations in intonation and stress. Although, as stated in the beginning of the unit, I have only taught isolated sounds in class previously, this unit gives me the information and motivation to incorporate more into my lessons.
