This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
1. Overview: Unit 18
Unit 18 deals with modal auxiliary verbs, passive voice, phrasal verbs and relative clauses.
The different uses of modal auxiliary verbs are examined and explained as well as teaching ideas given. Passive voice is explained in detail, covering the form (passive formation), usage, typical student errors/mistakes and teaching ideas.
Relative clauses and relative pronouns - defining relative clauses and non-defining relative clauses - are discussed. The three basic types of phrasal verbs are briefly covered.
2. What I learnt
Explaining modal auxiliary verbs is a useful revision for me. The chart on p.2-3 is very helpful, thank you! It reminds me how to distinguish between the different uses of modals to change formality and meaning of the verb, for example which modal verb to use in more polite requests or to give formal permission.
For some reason I somewhat miss the point concerning phrasal verbs. I have to revise this section again and do some additional study of this grammar.
