Unit 11 introduces the four basic skills in any language, which are reading and listening, and speaking and writing. In particular, Unit 11 covers the receptive skills rather than the productive skills. The important questions associated with the receptive skills are why do we listen and read, and how do we listen and read. I remember learning about the \"how\" in my methods classes, the specialist skills being predictive, specific, general, detailed and deductive. I enjoyed the portion of video where the instructor explained that we spend a lot of time listening to those around us until we begin to speak utterances as the natural process of language.
