This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit reviews ideas to consider regarding classroom management. Seating arrangements are discussed. For example, with a very large class, the only choice may be to form the desks into rows facing forward. However, with smaller groups the teacher may prefer to form a half-circle or full circle to promote group interaction and facilitate pair work.
The unit discusses eye contact, which should be used to help promote student engagement and participation and should be restricted during quiet times or student activity that does not involve the teacher. The teacher's voice should be clear, and the teacher should use gestures to deliver his or her message in a more dynamic manner.
The unit also reviewed ways to build a rapport with the class and also the ways to prevent and respond to behavior problems. The teacher should know all of the students' names and always be punctual, well-prepared, respectful to the students, and consistent in applying discipline in accordance with school policy.
