This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 was an excellent unit to read through. I really enjoyed the gentle reminder it gave me as a teacher that it?s ok to personalize lessons to what the students enjoy. Currently, my classroom for my American Sign Language class is set up in the ?horseshoe? shape so that they can sign to each other more easily. I never thought about the fact that it makes the classroom ?more intimate.? Upon further reflection, I realized that is in fact correct. The students are more engaged in conversation, students who didn?t know other student?s names now know, etc. It?s a great set up!Pronounciation and phonology might be one of the most difficult issues in teaching English. Even english school kids have to learn proper spelling of words because there are some rules but a lot of exceptions that do not really make sense. Imagining that even native speakers have problems in spelling how difficult is it for foreigners. The more important it is to emphasis on correct pronounciation and spelling from the very beginning by including games into each lesson.
Don't let them speak and write like they are used to it in their mothertongue. It is more difficult to correct them at the end.
