This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Student participation is highly dependent on the teacher and his or her attitude. In the first lesson, the teacher is very intimidating. He makes no attempt to build a rapport with the students. The combination of his unfriendly facial gestures and smug comments keeps the class from wanting to interact and participate. Even his demeanor - for example, crumpling the worksheet - is off-putting.
In his second lesson, we can immediately notice his attitude is different. He introduces himself and proceeds to learn everyone's name. In addition, he smiles, uses physical gestures, pictures, and the white board to further engage the class. He does a better job of teaching the class the lesson and setting them up for success. He successfully bounces back and forth between study and activate stages, making sure the students fully comprehend the content by pairing it with a appropriate lessons.
