How to teach receptive skills was the focus of this lesson. More specifically, reading and listening. The reasons for reading and listening as well as how we read ad listen are important for a teacher to understand. In reading and listening, predictive skills, scanning, skimming, gaining detailed information as well as reading or listening to deduce from a context were explained. Student will undoubtedly have problems with these receptive skills. There are ways to combat this including pre-teaching problematic vocabulary as well as carefully selecting texts. Choosing interesting topics, generating interest, giving tasks for comprehension, and a having an effective ESA lesson plan are effective techniques in teaching a language point.
