This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit reviewed conditionals and reported speech. Conditionals can be very confusing for non-native English speakers. The unit clearly explained the different types of conditions and the situations in which they should be used, with clear examples for each. The teaching ideas were also helpful, as it seems like demonstration and practice would be the best way to try to teach conditionals. Reported speech can also be quite confusing for non-native English speakers, as there are many changes in verb tense, pronoun, time expression, etc. Reported speech has a number of rules that can generally be applied, but there are always exceptions. It was helpful that the unit called out things like backshifting, which may come naturally to an English speaker but would certainly need to be called to a non-native English language student's attention in the classroom.
