It is very important to ensure that prior to placing a student in a language class that as teachers we are able to identify what level and placement the student is at today. Often times this is done through a placement or diagnostic test. During the student's time as a language student it is wise for the teacher to give ongoing feedback and measure language progress through progress tests, either weekly, monthly, etc.. When students are ready to take on an external exam it is recommended that they be given practice exams to test their current knowledge. General examinations can include the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC and other Cambridge examinations.
