This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this unit, it is important to realize the needs and interests of the type of student/students you are teaching. By using the feedback from students and getting an idea about their needs, you can organize lessons, specific grammar points and vocabulary suited to the type of students you will teach (eg. Bankers will want to prioritise client relations and simple conversations). It is also important to base lessons on specific backgrounds or classroom situations (eg. If you are dealing with a monolingual classroom situation, it is vital that the themes are suited to the culture and interests of the majority of the students). It is also important for the teacher to consider peer and work colleague dynamics before a course to understand that every student/client should be treated equally and fairly and that if individual issues with the English language arise, it can be dealt with individually or by encouraging self study and specific homework.
