In this unit, I have learned a few important points regarding the teaching of vocabulary and grammatical structures. For example, the criteria one must consider when selecting vocabulary includes: its level of appropriateness for the students; how appropriate it is to the task; how often the students are likely to use it, and if it can be applied to different contexts; lastly, how teachable it is (that is, it must be very clear for introductory level students). Regarding what students need to know about a particular vocabulary item, it is important for them to know the word?s meaning, how it is or should be used; its grammatical context, its interaction with other words, and its spelling and pronunciation. When learning grammatical structures, it is important for students to know the meaning, the usage, the forms and patterns, and any differences between spoken and written forms of these structures.
