This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covered the differences between authentic and creative materials and when and how to use them in the classroom. Authentic materials are great for learning how people actually speak in regular conversation. They can also be found anywhere so it's easy to find different materials to practice and study from. However, as they are geared towards an audience that is already fluent in that language, they may be difficult for various levels of learning and it's important that, when using them, the teacher has chosen materials that are not only interesting to the students but is at the appropriate level. Creative materials can be designed specifically to one class and learning level and can also be very fun for students. These materials keep the teacher from relying too heavily on textbooks, which aren't always appropriate for one's teaching purposes, and allow students to be creative in their learning as well.
