This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit reviewed modal auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs, and the passive voice. These are more advanced grammatical topics and can be confusing for non-native English speakers. They are, however, used quite often in speaking English, so students would benefit from training in these topics. Modal auxiliary verbs have specific intricacies that indicate varying degrees of formality, obligation, and certainty. Phrasal verbs are best learned as vocabulary terms, as the addition of a particle usually alters the meaning of the base verb, which may create confusion if introduced as a verb form. It was helpful to read that teachers should try to naturally use already introduced phrasal verbs while in the classroom, to increase students' understanding of the verb as they hear it used in spoken English. It was also helpful to read about the specific proper uses for the passive voice, as it is often used incorrectly, even by native English speakers.
