During the process of studying this unit i have been able to apply several of the principles outlined in this unit.
The first lesson i focused on applying the Straight Arrow concept within the ESA methodology.
Prior to this my classes were centred around the language academy's course materials without deviating much from them - i didn't have the confidence or knowledge to do things differently.
The chapter of the class book i had scheduled to teach that day was on animals. I decided to incorporate the example of animals written in the course notes.
Immediately upon applying the 'Engage' phase of the lesson the student's reaction was very positive. The talkative students were even more talkative and it inspired the quieter students participate.
The remainder of the lesson proceeded just as well and i was able to include the various activities from the class book into the Study and Activate phases.
The lesson started with a video of animals in the wild. I elicited what the students' favourite animals were.
The objective of the class that day was that the students could form sentences using the language points \"can/can't\".
After the study phase the students drew a picture of their \"super animal\" and presented their drawing with an explanation - including using the language point - to the rest of the class.
All the students left at the end of the two-and-a-half hour class happy and motivated. Thanks ITTT!!
