This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit examines the assimilation of language by the student. It focuses on the inherent receptive skills of the students - reading and listening and examines how the teacher may leverage on their strengths and abilities to provide a path by which english is taught. It examines the motivation for reading and listening and outlines specific skills that students utilise when reading or listening, namely predictive skills, specific information scanning, general idea skimming, reading for detailed information and deduction from content. All these skills are present in students to a greater or lesser extent but the teacher may make their task easier by pre-teaching vocabulary and a careful selection of text topics - not too easy and not too difficult. These can then be incorporated into a lesson plan, for example a patchwork ESA plan.
