This unit is about course books and lesson materials. As the use, suitability and effectiveness of course books depend on the school, teacher, students and the particular course book, a teacher will always have to supplement some of his or her own materials to improve his or her class. Created materials are commonly provided to support the course book with self-made or handpicked material that is graded to the student level. Authentic materials on the other hand are real and therefore more challenging and interesting. As for coursebooks they contain all kinds of reading, listening and working materials for teacher & student. Course books can be used well if the teacher approaches it critically, varying with other materials, knowing what material is suitable and when to omit certain materials, replace or supplement them with something else and being able to adapt to the course book and materials with his or her own approach/style.
