This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
It is equally important to balance the two receptive skills (reading and listening) with the two main productive skills (speaking and writing), in order to achieve fun and interesting lessons. Speaking activities in particular focus on two mains areas: accuracy and fluency. Accuracy within the study phase has the teacher controlling the use of language using drills and prompts to ensure the correct use of language. Meanwhile, fluency is a little more creative in which the teacher allows the students to control the direction and flow in language with activities like role-play and debates. There is less need for corrections during the fluency activities. This unit also provides helpful examples of lesson plans that incorporate common games. These games can be transformed into language-based games that encourage rapport and interest in a classroom. For example, jeopardy is an excellent way to end a lesson in the activate stage by having the students practice the language they just learned together.
