The content of this unit was complex and discusses very subtle topics that will take much practice to be able to teach effectively. The sections on intonation and word stress were very interesting; they are aspects of speech that I do not consider often because I am a native speaker. But now, I am realizing the difficulties these aspects will present to non-native English speakers and listeners.
The phonetic alphabet will be very helpful, but will take more studying to be truly proficient. So will the subtleties of articulation. Before this chapter, my focus was on how to teach words and sentence structure, but now I see the importance and benefit of mastering the sounds of language - and the need to be able to teach the sounds, as well,
