This unit discussed the different types of tests, and how and why they're used. For example, placement tests are used to ensure students are placed into classes of the proper skill level, progress tests are used to figure out what aspects of language have been retained and what haven't, and diagnostic tests help to determine what students already know so that the teacher can plan their course and lessons accordingly.
Tests are important because they give the teacher and the students a way to gauge what the students know, what they've learned, and what they need to work on. As a teacher, tests will give me valuable information so that I can know what lessons may need more review, how well my students are progressing in their language learning, and it will give me an idea as to what areas and aspects of my teaching I may need to work on.
