Unit 11 introduced the concept of receptive and productive skills. It detailed that receptive skills include reading and listening. The unit outlined what and how students read as well as the potential problems that can arise as a result. The key points of learning included, ensuring that reading and listening materials develop interest within students. Along with the choice of task, interest in a topic will assist in engagement and comprehension levels of the class. In addition to this, understanding how students listen and read, e.g. using predictive skills or for general idea will help to identify and assist students when attempting to read or listen to material in English as not every stimulus needs to be read the same.
